How Does the IEE Process Work?
1. Request an IEE: Submit a written request to your school district, outlining your concerns about their evaluation.
2. District Response: The school district must either agree to fund the IEE or file for a hearing to prove their evaluation was appropriate.
3. Select an Evaluator: Choose an evaluator who meets the school district’s criteria, or work with the district to find a qualified professional.
4. Evaluation Process: The independent evaluator will conduct assessments, review educational records, and prepare a detailed report.
5. Review Results: Use the IEE results to discuss and plan your child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan.
Who Pays for the IEE?
If the IEE is approved by the school district, they are required to cover the costs. Alternatively, parents can choose to pay for the evaluation independently.
Need Assistance with IEE Process?
Navigating the IEE process can be complex, but you don’t have to do it alone. LC Education is here to help you understand your rights and connect you with qualified unbiased evaluators.
